Application Procedure

Applications will be given during open enrollment only. Open enrollment information will be posted outside the nursing office and on the ELAC website (http://www.elac.edu/Academics/Departments/Nursing)

STEP 1

In order to be considered for acceptance into the Nursing Program, applicants must submit a COMPLETE APPLICATION PACKET, which requires the following:

  1. One completed and signed application.
  2. One of the following - official U.S. high school transcript, official U.S. GED transcript or proof of US college degree
  3. One official transcript from all colleges and universities attended.

*Transcript Instructions: One official transcript needs to be submitted directly to the nursing office. It can be hand delivered or mailed to the nursing department. If mailed, please make sure and label it Attention Nursing Department

Note: ALL HIGH SCHOOL, COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY WORK OR CREDIT REFERS TO SCHOOLS ONLY ACCREDITED BY ASSOCIATIONS OF UNITED STATES COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. WE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS.

REQUIREMENTS/PREREQUISITES

One of the following - official U.S. high school transcript, official U.S. GED transcript or proof of US college degree

  1. A cumulative GPA of 2.5
  2. A GPA of 2.5 in the Science prerequisites (Anatomy/Physiology/Microbiology)
  3. Completion of ATI TEAS test (LATEST VERSION) with a cut score of 62%
  4. Satisfactory completion of each of the following courses
    1. Anatomy/Physiology: College courses in Anatomy/Physiology with Laboratory (minimum 8 semester units) or Biology 20 (a combined course of Anatomy/Physiology).
      Note: no more than one repeat is allowed in the 3 sciences (Anatomy/Physiology/Microbiology).
    2. Chemistry 51 or 65 (1 year high school chemistry acceptable provided a minimum satisfactory grade of (C) achieved in both semesters)
    3. Microbiology 1 or 20: A college course in Microbiology with Laboratory (minimum 4 semester units)
    4. Psychology 1: General Psychology course (minimum 3 semester units).
    5. Psychology 41: Life-Span Psychology (minimum 3 semester units).
    6. Math 125: Intermediate Algebra.
    7. English 101: College Reading and Composition (minimum 3 semester units).
  5. Health: the student must be free from any condition that would present a threat to the well being of the consumer (Title 22, California Code of Regulations, Division, Section 70723)
    1. A complete physical examination with select immunizations will be required upon acceptance into the program.

STEP 2

In order for an application to be considered, a completed packet must be received in the Nursing Office.

NOTE: DO NOT SUBMIT APPLICATIONS TO THE ADMISSIONS OFFICE. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE REVIEWED.

The Nursing Department will inform you by email (the email you listed on your application) if you were accepted or not.
If you have not been accepted to the program we encourage you to apply during our next open enrollment session.

Note: BACKGROUND CHECKS- Once you have been accepted, a background check at your cost is required & must be successfully passed before you are able to start the Nursing Program.

STEP 3

Getting Admitted

Application Procedure:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age
  2. Must have a Social Security card (To be able to eligible to apply for NCLEX licensure upon completion of the program).
  3. Must submit one of the following sealed official transcripts:
    1. All official transcripts must be filed with Admissions & Records sent from Admissions & Records to Admissions & Records
    2. U.S. high school
    3. U.S. college degree (AA, AS, BA, BS, etc.)
  4. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5
  5. Completion with a 2.5 or better in the following Science prerequisites:
    1. Human Anatomy with a Lab. (4 units)
    2. Human Physiology 1 with a Lab. (4 units)
    3. Combined Course of Anatomy & Physiology (8 units)
    4. Microbiology 1 (5 units) or 20 (4 units)
  6. General Education Requirements
    1. College Chemistry 51 or 65; 1 year of high school chemistry is acceptable provided a minimum satisfactory grade of “C” or higher in both semesters.
    2. English 101 – College Reading and Composition (3 semester units minimum).
    3. Psychology 1 – General Psychology (3 semester units minimum).
    4. Psychology 41 – Life-Span Psychology (3 semester units minimum).
    5. Mathematics 125 – Intermediate Algebra or equivalent.
  7. Pass the ATI TEAS test with a 64% or higher. The student may attach an unofficial copy of his/her scores to the application.

Applications are accepted for thirty (30) students twice a year. We no longer have a wait list. Admission to ELAC RN program is based on the California State Chancellors Office Multi-criteria for Enrollment – refer to Multi-Criteria Point Selection document on this web page ( http://elac.edu/ELAC/media/ELAC-Assets/Documents/Academics/Departments-Disciplines/Nursing/ELAC-multicriteria-points-formula.pdf).

Individuals with the highest points will be accepted into the program. If you are not accepted to the nursing program, denied applicant files are not kept. You must reapply to the program and submit your entire application packet again.
