Born in Boyle Heights and raised in East Los Angeles, John Edward Nuñez is a versatile musician and educator. He has performed in a variety of styles and in accompaniment for artists including James Galway, Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman and Gladys Knight. He has recorded for artists such as Celine Dion, David Foster and James Newton. He holds a Master degree in Bassoon Performance from U.C.L.A., a Professional Certificate in Bassoon Performance from U.S.C., and a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Cal. State U.L.A., Dr. David Buck as his principal conducting mentor.
Ensembles in which Mr. Nuñez has performed as principal bassoonist include: La Orquesta Mexicana de la Juventude in Mexico City, the Los Angeles Guild Opera, the Los Angeles Classica Ballet Orchestra, the Asia American Symphony Orchestra, and the "Music Center on Tour" Woodwind Quintet, to name a few. He was featured on two recordings by world renowned jazz flutist and composer James Newton, with whom he has toured Europe and the United States.
In addition to his ELAC course, Mr. Nuñez has served as Music Director for the Esperanza Azteca Youth Orchestra Los Angeles and is currently the bassoon studio instructor. He is also the Band Director at Crestview Preparatory School in La Cañada, CA.
