Muriel Goorwitch Balian has made music the center of her life since the age of 5, when she began piano lessons. She graduated from John Marshall High School In the Los Feliz area (where she still happily lives). She earned a B.A. in English Literature from U.C. Berkeley, then attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under full scholarship, where she met her future husband, violinist Haig Balian. She earned a M.A. in Piano Accompanying from USC. She has studied with Sylvia Tannenbaum, Marcus Gordon, Adolph Baller, Jean Barr, and Madame Koldofsky.
In addition to performing as a piano accompanist, she has worked at Valley College and is currently teaching as an adjunct professor at ELAC and Glendale Community College, where she happily shares with her students her knowledge of Music Appreciation, Music Fundamentals, Music History and Literature, and piano.
