WHO CAN APPLY
To be considered for financial aid, students must generally meet the following minimum requirements.
1. Be a U.S citizen or an eligible non-citizen. an eligible non-citizen is a U.S permanent resident who has documentation from the Immigration and Naturalization Service verifying that his/her stay in the U.S is for other than a temporary purpose.
2. Show financial need.
3. Make satisfactory progress in a course of study leading to an AA or AS degree, certificate, or transfer to a baccalaureate degree program.
4. Not be in default on any loans such as Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Stafford Loans (subsidized and unsubsidized), Federal Direct Loans (subsidized and unsubsidized), SLS Loans (Supplemental Loans for Students), or FPLUS Loans (Parental Loans for Undergraduate Students) at any school attended.
5. Not owe a refund on a Federal Pell Grant Program, Federal Supplemental Educational Grant (FSEOG) or State Student Incentive Grant (SSIG).
6. Be registered with the Selective Service if required to do so.
7. Be enrolled as a regular student in an eligible program.
8. Have a valid Social Security Number.
( Demonstrate an Ability to Benefit as defined below.)
ABILITY TO BENEFIT
Students who meet one of the qualifications listed below have demonstrated the ability to benefit from a college education in accordance with applicable Federal Regulations.
1 Received a high school diploma; or
2 Passed a high school proficiency exam; or
3 Received a certificate of General Education Development (GED); or
4 Successfully completed a two-year program (minimum 48 units) that is acceptable for full credit toward a bachelor's degree. This student may be admitted on the basis that he or she has the recognized equivalent of a high school diplomat; or
5 Passed an independently administered test that is approved by the Secretary of the Department of Education.
Beginning Spring 1991, non-high school graduate students who have been continuously enrolled and have satisfactorily completed at least one(1) unit each semester are exempt from taking the approved test. Students in this category must have a counselor's certification of ability to benefit.
