You can earn an Associate Degree in Arts or Sciences at ELAC. Many students earn an Associate Degree in addition to reaching another goal such as an occupational certificate or transferring to a university or college. It is recommended to meet with a counselor to develop a Student Educational Plan that will allow you to achieve your goals in the most efficient way possible.
The requirements for an Associate Degree:

- 60 semester units minimum
|
|
|
- A "C" (2.0) grade average or better in all work attempted
|
|
|
- Completion of at least 12 units of work in residence and attendance at the college during the semester in which the graduation requirements are completed. Exceptions may be made under special circumstances.

- English Competency Requirement:
|
- For students entering prior to Fall 2009: Completion of one of the following with a "C" or better: English 28, 61, 62, 63, 65, 101, or Journalism 101.
- For students beginning Fall 2009: Completion of English 101 with a grade of "C" or better OR a score of 3 or higher on the exam of AP English Language and Composition or English Composition and Literature.

- Math Competency Requirement:

- For students entering prior to Fall 2009: Completion of one of the following with a grade of "C" or better: Math 115 or higher, Electronics 10, 12, or 14, or General Engineering Technology 121 or higher or achieving a passing score on the Mathematics Competency Test. (This test can only be taken once in the entire LACCD district).
- For students entering beginning Fall 2009: Completion of one of the following with a grade of "C" or better: Math 125 or any higher level mathematics course with a prerequisite of Math 125 or its equivalent OR a passing score on the District (Intermediate Algebra) Mathematics Competency Examination OR a score of 3 or higher on the exam for AP Calculus AB, Calculus BC, or Statistics.

Students have an option to select Plan A or Plan B to meet the AA or AS degree requirements.
Students who are majoring in programs of study for which 18-35 units are required in the major should complete Plan.
Students who are majoring in programs of study for which 36 or more units are required in the major should complete Plan B.
