CalWorks (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids), previously GAIN, is a program offering training and support services to students receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families), previously AFDC.
Services available to students:
- One on one Counseling & Educational Planning
- Personal and Professional Development Workshops
- GED and ESL classes
- Books and Supplies
- Access to Computers and Job Search Programs
- On and off campus workstudy
- Job Development & Placement
- Short Term Training Available
- Family support services and referrals
- Child Care at the ELAC state of the art Child Care Center

- Tutoring
Eligibility
- Anyone receiving TANF benefits
- Participants in the GAIN Welfare to Work Program
- CalWORKs participant must complete an Educational Plan with the CalWORKs Counselor
- CalWORKs participants must comply with 32 hours of scheduled requirements a week. Included are enrolled classes, CalWORKs personal development workshops, lab hours, Work Study and study time.
- CalWORKs offers work study positions that are related to their field of study for all eligible CalWORKs participants.
