East Los Angeles College Website (last updated - 9/19/2008)
The Information Technology department is at it again, working hard to bring East Los Angeles College to the cutting edge of educational technology. What better ways to introduce the new technology than to convey the information through a website. The ELAC website has completed its transition from the previous template last month, into the new Omniupdate software. The purpose of another website transition is to create uniformity District-wide. The District is aiming to improve the experience as well as facilitate information in a similar look and feel District-wide.
One of our first projects is to update each Academic Department website. The new Department’s site will contain aesthetically pleasing design along with a message from each Academic department's Chair and general announcements to promote the departments. While this website is still under development, it illustrates the new look and feel. We are aiming to have all department websites changed/migrated by Fall 2008. Trainings and/or meetings will be conducted to bring the entire college website up to the next level. Academic Portal (last updated - 9/19/2008)
The Information Technology department is currently working on the newly enhanced version of the Academic Portal set to be released by Spring 2009. Using Corasworks and SharePoint technology, the newly enhanced Academic Portal will enable faculty members to collaborate with students in a Course Management Environment from the classroom to the Internet.
Feedback from faculty members on the first version of SharePoint has inspired the development of the new features for the Academic Portal. This exciting technology will make this portal site more accessible and practical for the faculty and students. Stay tuned for more information about the Academic Portal training sessions to be offered to the faculty. We expect to have this ready by early 2009.
Wireless News Update (last updated - 9/19/2008)
The Information Technology Department is proud to announce that on Monday July 14th, 2008 the installation of the campus wide wireless technology are in progress. The Information Technology Department is working diligently with CISCO engineers to prepare the wireless access points strategically campus-wide. This new and exciting technology will give ELAC students, faculty, staff, and administrators the ability to access the Internet with a wireless device anywhere within the ELAC perimeters. The wireless coverage will be available inside and outside of the buildings as well as in the parking lots. The completion date is set for this coming Fall 2008.
Gonzalo Mendoza, Information Technology Director, is optimistic that the new wireless technology, along with ACE components, will put East Los Angeles College as one of the front runners for cutting edge technology state wide.
