IntraLibrary Loan Policy

Intra-Library loan, or ILL, borrows books that the East L.A. college libraries do not own or carry in print.

To submit an ILL request, you need to speak to a librarian in the library to place an order.

This service is currently available to ELAC students, faculty and staff of the college.

Normally, it takes approximately 5 working days to receive the requested material.

The maximum number of requests or items borrowed shall not exceed 10 books at any one time. Note: a user can request no more than two items from the same library at a time.

You can borrow books up to 2 weeks only. The due date will be indicated on the ILL wrapper and due date slip in the book. There are no renewals allowed for ILL material(s).

Return books directly to the circulation desk located on the first floor. Please return materials on time to avoid fines and holds on your record. Failure to return material may result in suspension of library privileges.

A library staff will contact you once the book arrives and available for check out. You will pick up material(s) at the circulation desk on the first floor. Make sure you provide us with your current contact number.

There is no charge to use our service. However, you will be responsible or liable for lost, late, or damaged materials.

Under special circumstances, a student may directly borrow material from another library without going through the intra library loan process. If mutually agreed by both libraries, the student can be directed to the owning library.

Materials that are not available for check out include the following:
  • Reference materials
  • Reserved materials
  • Audio visual materials
  • Periodicals
Note: Video DVD requests can only be placed between ELAC and South Gate Educational Center Libraries.

Material that is available for check out includes the following:
  • General collection books
Note: We make the best effort to place the request for you, but it is at the discretion of the holding library to fulfill it.
