Types of Databases

The two types of databases that we will look at in this tutorial are: library catalogs and article databases.

The library catalog is a database that organizes all of the books, DVDs and videotapes that the East Los Angeles College library has. It does not include articles or periodicals.

Article databases are used to identify articles on a topic.

Some article databases such as ProQuest are general or multidisciplinary. Other databases specialize in a particular subject area, such as biology, literature, or business.
