apply every time, but taken as a whole, they provide good guidelines.
many photographs and advertisements
printed on glossy paper
issued at least once a month
articles no more than a few pages long
covering a wide range of topics
geared toward the general public
"Journal" in the title
published on a quarterly or monthly basis
bibliographies at the end of articles
written for researchers or professionals
more text than photos or advertisements
sponsored by a professional or academic organization
