Learn More About Speech Theatre Arts:
Succeed @ ELAC
Have you dreamed of an acting career? Are you fascinated with how a theatrical production is staged? Do you think you could build a set for a musical? Experience all aspects of theatre production and explore the vibrant world of producing, acting and even writing plays.
Success = Great Teachers
Professional actors and directors teach our acting classes and direct our productions. We welcome the diversity of our population and provide casting opportunities not available in more traditional programs. Students are often cast in shows in their first semester at ELAC! Award winning designers teach scenery, lighting, make-up and costume techniques in the technical program. The Stage Management program provides opportunities to manage productions, receive paid internships, and earn a skills-set certificate in Stage Management and Production.
Success = Career Connections
We train our acting students to be ready for performing opportunities in professional theatre, film and TV. Students learn from and work with professional actors and directors in our Guest Artist Workshops to master production and performing skills. Many Stage Management students receive paid internships with companies such as the Philadelphia Theatre Company, the Black Hills Playhouse, and the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts.
Success = Commitment to Art
We teach the skills and commitment that prepare you to make it in the demanding entertainment industry. Learn every aspect of theatre production and acting by working as part of a creative team led by professionals willing to share their knowledge. We help you discover your creative potential. Our mission is to help you create a foundation for your life in art.
Success = Theatre & Equipment
Work with state-of-the-art lighting, sound and construction equipment in a full-scale theatre so you can transition to a professional setting fully prepared to design sets, costumes, and manage stage productions.
Success = University Transfer
You can earn an Associates Degree in Theatre and complete lower division units to transfer to a four-year university. Explore our connection with Cal State Long Beach or the University of South Dakota.
Success Costs Less @ ELAC
Tuition is low, less than $400 per semester for a full time student who is a California resident. Plus, we make it easier for working students to attend classes by providing support services such as loans, childcare, tutoring, scholarships, health care and more.
Admission is Easy
Anyone 18 years or older qualifies for admission to East Los Angeles College. People under 18 qualify if they have graduated from high school of if they have passed the California High School Proficiency test. High school students may concurrently enroll at ELAC with the consent of their parents and high school and get an early start on their college education and pay no tuition.
Applications and information to register for day and evening classes are available from the Admissions Office by calling 323-265-8966.
