How do I enroll in East Los Angeles College?

To enroll, students must be a high school graduate or recipient of a Certificate of Proficiency from the State Board of Education (students currently enrolled in grades K-12 need to contact the admissions office for further information). New students need to complete and return the Application for Admissions, and present a photo ID and immigration/visa documentation (non US citizens). Students will be given an appointment to take the Assessment Test, and ultimately given a time/date to register for classes.

What is the Assessment Test?

The Assessment Test is a 3.5 hour process, including the English and Math Assessment, as well as an orientation. The tests help determine the students levels of English and Mathematics, which assists in placing students in the appropriate level course.

Do I need to see a counselor or can I just choose my own classes?

It is highly recommended that students meet with a counselor. Our counselors are well versed in the programs offered at the college, and have assisted countless students in achieving their educational goals. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-in services are available. Contact the Counseling Department for more information or to set up an appointment.

How much are classes?

Classes at East Los Angeles College are $26.00 per unit. There is also a mandatory $11.00 Health Fee, which helps support the Student Health Center. Students can choose to join the Associated Student Organization, which provides various services, for a fee of $7.00. Fees for Out-of-State residents are $154.00 per unit, plus an enrollment fee of $26.00 per unit, for a total of $180.00 per unit. Fees for Residents of a Foreign Country are $164.00 per unit, plus an enrollment fee of $26.00 per unit. Students on F-1 Visa also pay a $25.00 per semester International student processing fee .

What types of services are available?

East Los Angeles College provides various programs and services to its students. Included among them are Financial Aid, Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), Disabled Student Program and Services (DSPS), Counseling, University Center, Child Development Center, and Job Placement Center. Click on the appropriate link for more information on each individual program.


How can I get a copy of my transcripts?

  • Unofficial transcripts are available ONLINE (Link opens the new browser window) at the Los Angeles Community College website.


  • Official Transcripts can be obtained either by mail or bring completed correct form to the Admissions Office. A student or former student shall be entitled to two free copies of the transcript and/or Verifications. Thereafter, copies are available for $3.00.


  • Emergency Transcripts are available. The fee is $7.00 each copy if student has not received free copies; each additional Emergency Transcript is $10.00 per copy.
