The mission of the Learning Assistance Center at East Los Angeles College is to help ELAC students become independent, responsible learners. To this end, we do our best to provide each student with the help he or she needs. the following services are currently available:

Writer's Corner
The ELAC Learning Assistance Center Writers' Corner is dedicated to helping student writers take advantage of all the opportunities for learning inherent in the writing process. All ELAC students and staff are encouraged to take advantage of our one-to-one assistance on any writing project they may have. Tutors help writers to:

Understand an assignment
Generate Ideas
Pre-write
Develop a thesis
Identify the audience
Organize and develop ideas
Revise earlier drafts
Improve proofreading and editing skills
Discover their own writing voice
Utilize Word processing/Printing

Writers' Corner (by appointment only) hours are from 9:00am to 1:00pm and 2:00pm to 8:00pm, Monday through Friday, and 9:00am to 1:00pm Friday and Saturday.

Tutorial Services
Tutoring is provided in several ways:

Walk-In every hour: Math, English, Life Science, Social Science, Child Development, Reading, Writing, Basic Skills, Internet and other college level courses
Individual
Small Groups
By Appointment
Computer Programs

CAI-LAB

The Learning Assistance Center also houses the Computer Assisted Instruction Lab (CAI) whish is equipped with IBM compatible computers with Windows 98 and Microsoft Office 2000 for word-processing and internet access. Printing (black & white and color), scanner and other assistance are available. Available software programs include:

Applied Math
C++
English
Grammer
HIT
Keyboarding
Nursing
Nutrition (Diet Analysis)
Respiratory Therapy

NOTE: Printing cards are available for purchase at the Fiscal Office.
