ELAC has every tool to make it: Honors program, English and Math lab, Transfer Center, and too much to list. The faculty wasn't to see you succeed so use them to improve your skills. All you need is your motivation to facilitate your growth. With motivation and ELAC's vast resources there should not be a reason not to transfer. The time I spent in ELAC so far are the best years of my life, so enjoy it, but know how to balance your time with academics, work, and recreation.

Looking back at ELAC, I think my favorite part about it was getting to know all of my teachers and my peers through clubs and organizations. ELAC was such a small community and it has allowed me to make lasting friends, develop necessary social skills and become a stronger and more ready student. I would definitely take advantage of all of the resources ELAC has to offer, such as the transfer center, counseling department, and professors, who are passionate in helping you get on the right track towards your academic dreams. Getting in involved has made my years at ELAC more memorable and I hope you will follow suit. Further, as a student, whether you are planning to transfer or trying to attain a degree, it is important to not be distracted or discouraged from your short term goals. Time moves by faster than you think. So take advantage of the opportunities around you. Follow your passions. And never give up!

Best of Luck!

Political Science Do not neglect your math or be lazy about it. Having a mathematical background will only work in your favor since it is hard to determine what your future goals might entail, remember that people evolve over time. In order to even start dreaming you should work vigorously on your writing and reading skills since they will come in handy regardless of what your academic or career goals are. If you are already know a language and want to meet the language requirement, do not be a coward and take the easy way out, learn a new language and remain open to new ideas. And embrace the competition do not let yourself be intimidated, work harder. If you mess up, do not let it get to you it should empower you to do better. Try not to withdraw from too many classes either. To conclude: do your math; work on your reading and writing; be open minded; eat healthy; work out; always go for scholarships; and do not be intimidated by anyone (also research the TAP program and Honors Program). It will be over before you know it; you will be missing ELAC when the time comes to transfer. I am very grateful to ELAC and the wonderful people there; it would not have been possible without their help. Thank you ELAC.

- The best advice I can give is don't get stuck because you're comfortable where you're at and are too scared to venture off to a 4-year university. Also don't be afraid to go back if things don't work out the way you expected them to. It took me transferring after 3 years and completely hating the school I was at to realize I was miserable because I was doing what I knew instead of what I loved. After that I returned to ELAC for the Spring 2010, changed my major, and got my AA. I'm now 6 weeks into my 1st semester here and couldn't be happier. I encourage everyone to do their research when choosing where to transfer. You shouldn't pick a school just because you want to be able to say that's where you go. Look at the program and classes for your major specifically and see if that fits what you want to get out of your education. I also urge you to not only apply to local schools because you don't want to leave home, look into out of state schools as well, it’s a great chance to experience something new and for you to grow by being on your own away from everything you know. Lastly, don't give up because its taking you a little longer than everyone around you to finish, remember we all live life at our own pace. Good luck!

Community College is not hard whatsoever. It's only as hard as you yourself make it to be. All you have to do is switch your button to robot mode and just do what professors ask you to do. It's not hard to transfer but it does take some time, effort, determination, sacrifice and persistence. Take it a step it a time and a semester at a time. And believe me; all that time you put in at ELAC will be worth it once you've transferred. Get involved and be informed. ELAC does have all the resources you need to transfer. Don't hesitate to ask even the dumbest questions. Nobody ever did it alone. Make sure you pay all the help you got forward. You can never be too sure of things, especially going through such long process. I started off with 1.0 GPA at ELAC and transferred out with a 3.3, so just know it’s never too late. Find a passion or something you can just read about for hours to guide you to a career. Your "no's and cant's" are more effective than the rejections from anyone else. Don't settle for anything, aim for the moon and reach for the stars. If I can make it, anyone can make it. I am not an exception.

Honor Student

Words of encouragement strive for the best; stay motivated focused, and determined to succeed in life. Keep your eyes on the prize of obtaining your ultimate goals in life by pursuing your educational goals. Stick to the TAG requirements and follow them precisely, as well as the general education requirements. Try to become Honor certified so you will have a better chance at getting into the college of your choice. Also enroll into some clubs and or activities while you’re at ELAC such as Math and Science club, so you will be a part of a organization, because they look good when you apply to all Universities. I wish you well much Glory and Success in life. I will look for you at the next level, my fellow ELAC peers.

Attending a community college was one of the best decisions I've made in my education, not only do you build a foundation for where ever you want to go but you also learn so much more from the professors who have years of teaching experience. Just plan out your goals and set to achieve them, it is also extremely easily to slack off at a community college but you also build self discipline to stay on task. Remember start at ELAC go anywhere!

The best advice I received was given to me at a Law School Workshop by one of my Anthony Solana, a prominent lawyer and social activist. He told me to "have the unwavering faith of a dreamer and the heart of warrior." To me, this quote meant that I needed to embrace my dreams. Although sometimes some people will doubt your ability to attend college, you must always believe that you can, you must have "unwavering faith." Believe me, when you can do this, every goal you have and are willing to work for will manifest itself for you. When I first began community college, many people including my family would laugh when I told them I will transfer to UCLA. The joke is on them now because I continued to believe in myself even when everything seemed to be going wrong. Things will undoubtedly seem impossible at some point but these are the times that you must preserve, this speaks to "the heart of a warrior" statement. These difficult moments will test your heart, which is to say that they will show you how bad you want to accomplish goals. Preserve through these moments because you can, and because they will separate the people who will transfer from those who will not.

Transferring as an AB-540 student seems almost impossible to many, but that is not true. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't achieve your dreams because they are ling to you. Transferring has become one of my greatest accomplishments, and it will soon be yours too. Take advantage of the resources that you have at ELAC. Enjoy your time by becoming an active student, visit your professors and more than anything ask questions.

One of the main reasons that I transfer was because I became active with Students for Equal Rights (SER). If you are an AB-540 student I strongly recommend you to take some time and learn more about SER.

Just remember: the stars are your limit.

To my fellow ELAC students, my word of advice is not to give up!!!! We are in a community where we as students work, go to school and at times support our family members. In the process of all this, failure may occur, but through hard work and effort for success, will be worth it in the end.
