Communication Studies Mission Statement

The mission of the East Los Angeles College Communication Studies Department is to promote student success through understanding and improving communication skills. Seeking educational diversity and providing the tools to transfer, the Communication Studies Department offers an AA-T Degree in Communication Studies that includes courses in English Speech as a Second Language, Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Argumentation and Debate, Individual Events, Forensics Activities, Oral Interpretation of Literature, Small Group Communication, and Communication and New Media. The department prides itself on offering students opportunities for intellectual growth both in and outside the classroom. To achieve that goal, the department has an established Communication Studies Student Club (Comm. Club) and is home to the nationally recognized East Los Angeles College Speech and Debate team.
