ELAC Awarded as 2021 Champion of Higher Education for Associate Degree for Transfer
MONTEREY PARK, CA – East Los Angeles College (ELAC) has been named a 2021 Champion of Higher Education by The Campaign for College Opportunity for exemplary work in implementing the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT). ELAC was also recognized as a 2021 Equity Champions for Excellence in Transfer for Latinx Students. This was for ELAC’s leading the state and working with intentionality to support Latinx students through the Associate Degree for Transfer.
The ADT provides a streamlined pathway between the California Community Colleges and the California State University (CSU) system. Compared to a traditional transfer student, ADT transfers earn their bachelor’s degree nearly twice as fast from a CSU. 798 ELAC students earned an ADT in the 2017-2018 school year and that increased to 1,212 students in the 2019-2020 year. That was one of the largest increases for any California Community College during that time span.
"I’m very proud of the work of our faculty, staff and administrators who have worked so hard to increase the number of ADTs and have helped earn us this incredible recognition. East Los Angeles College continues to be a leader in ADTs because we recognize that ADTs allow our students to fulfill transfer requirements and earn their bachelor's degree much quicker once transferred to a CSU. Thank you to our Husky family for maintaining their remarkable support of our students even in the most challenging times," said ELAC President Alberto J. Roman.
The Campaign for College Opportunity will be recognizing ELAC during a digital event on November 16th, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. via Zoom. The virtual celebration will bring together approximately 200-400 attendees representing California’s higher education leadership, elected officials, corporate sponsors, and civic and business leaders.
