MONTEREY PARK, CA – East Los Angeles College (ELAC) president, Alberto J. Roman, was named the new South Coast Conference (SCC) representative on the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Board. President Roman’s new role was approved in the CCCAA Board meeting on April 2 and he will succeed Compton College president Keith Curry effective July 1.
In his new role, Roman will deliver reports and important developments that take place at CCCAA Board meetings as part of the conference's regular athletic director meetings. Roman became the president of ELAC in January of 2021 after serving as the interim president since July 2020. His previous roles include vice chancellor of human resources for the Los Angeles Community College District and as a vice president of human resources at Southwestern College.
“I am honored to be serving this new role on the CCCAA Board on behalf of East Los Angeles College and all the schools in the South Coast Conference. Athletics has been a vital part of community colleges and a pathway for many to continue their education. I look forward to helping to continue the success of athletics at community colleges in the region and the state of California,” said President Roman.
The South Coast Conference is comprised of the following colleges: Cerritos, Compton, East Los Angeles, El Camino, Los Angeles City, LA Harbor, LA Southwest, LA Trade Tech, Long Beach City, Mt. San Antonio, Pasadena City, and Rio Hondo. It hosts Chaffey in aquatic sports only.
