MONTEREY PARK, CA – East Los Angeles College (ELAC) student Coraima Martinez was sworn into office as the 2021 Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Student Trustee during the June 2nd Board of Trustees meeting. The Student Trustee Election was held during the spring semester and saw Ms. Martinez win with 62% of the votes.
Coraima is a first-generation student at East LA College currently majoring in Political Science. She also currently serves as Vice Chair of Region VII for the Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC) and as Vice President of the ELAC Students for Political Awareness & Advocacy (ESPAA) club. She has helped to raise awareness on student issues such as access to technology and racism during her time at ELAC.
Ms. Martinez along with the seven elected LACCD Board of Trustees members meet twice a month on Wednesdays with the public session commencing at 3:00 p.m. and a closed session to follow. The Student Trustee is elected annually by LACCD students. Their term is June 1 through May 31 of each year.
