The Center for Global Education and Engagement

VIRTUAL EXCHANGES

The Center for Global Education and Engagement (CGEE) is embarking on an emerging area in the field of global education that would bring a cutting-edge opportunity for ELAC to facilitate students’ and faculty’s global awareness and understanding.

Virtual Exchanges (VE) are ways our campus can help students and faculty engage in inter-cultural and cross-linguistic communication through digital platforms embedded into coursework. These can be implemented with one of the following platforms:

  • Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)
  • Globally Networked Learning (GNL)

What are the benefits of Virtual Exchanges?

This video defines virtual exchange by highlighting important themes and components, in addition to the knowledge and skills virtual exchange participants gain./h3>

Students can:

  • Acquire global experiences by digitally interacting with students in other countries or across the country.
  • Have access to global content through current coursework offered at ELAC
  • Have a brief or lengthy global experience from within ELAC coursework.
  • Improve and learn to articulate their intercultural competencies and highly desired transversal skills to be competitive in today's work force.
  • Improve their digital literacy.

Faculty can:

  • Embed Virtual Exchanges in both academic and CTE coursework.
  • Collaborate in all disciplines with faculty abroad and across the country.
  • Particularly explore themes of mutual concern that address humanity's challenges in the 21st century: the pandemic, climate change, migration, social justice, autocratic governments, global capitalism, etc.
