Multiple Measures

English & Math Assessment

ELAC has implemented a new English & Math assessment process known as Multiple Measures. To be eligible, students must satisfy one (1) of the following criteria within the past ten (10) years:

  • Earned a high school diploma in the United States (U.S.)
  • Passed the General Educational Development (GED) test
  • Obtained a high school proficiency certificate

Students who do not meet the criteria above will be referred to an alternative assessment known as Guided Self-Placement. Students who are eligible for Multiple Measures will receive English & Math placement levels based on high school coursework, high school grades, and high school GPA. Students are asked to self-report their high school information by answering the Multiple Measures questions. Please note that high school transcripts are not required.

Multiple Measures Questions

  • What was your unweighted high school GPA?
  • What was the highest English course you took in high school?
  • What grade did you receive [in that English course]?
  • What was the highest Math course you took in high school?
  • What grade did you receive [in that Math course]?

How The Process Works

New/Returning Students

If you recently applied to ELAC (or any of the nine (9) colleges within LACCD), then you may have already answered the Multiple Measures questions as they are part of the online admissions application. Therefore, your English & Math placement results should already be available. Please read “How to View Placement Results” down below.

Continuing Students

If you would like to participate, please contact the Assessment Center. Once eligibility is confirmed, you will be given access to the Multiple Measures questions. The questions will be located inside your Student Portal under “To-Do’s List & Holds” (labeled “English and Math Placement”). Placement results will appear within 24 hours after answering the questions.
