African American Male Education Network and Development
Welcome
The African American Male Education Network & Development (A²MEND) is a nationally recognized organization dedicated to empowering students through mentorship, leadership development, and academic support. While A²MEND is designed primarily to assist African American men in navigating higher education and achieving their full potential, the organization is inclusive and welcomes all students who seek personal growth, community engagement, and professional success.
Through its student charters, leadership programs, and advocacy initiatives, A²MEND provides academic resources, mentorship opportunities, and professional development to help students excel in college and beyond. With a focus on education, cultural awareness, and student success, A²MEND works closely with faculty, administrators, and community leaders to create a supportive environment where all students can thrive.
The purpose of the African American Male Education Network and Development (A²MEND) program is to promote and enhance college attendance, success, empowerment, leadership, networking, professionalism, and graduation of individuals who identify as Black/African American and Allies at East Los Angeles College.
Opportunities and resources through the national A²MEND organization (e.g., mentorship, leadership development, conferences)
Engagement in special events, workshops, and activities through the associated A²MEND club
Counseling support throughout affiliated students’ journey (in collaboration with learning communities and programs)
College Tours (in conjunction with existing learning communities and programs)

Eligibility
Students who self-identify as Black/African American male or Ally who are enrolled at ELAC.
Meetings
The A²MEND Charter Program meets monthly on Tuesdays. This is a male focused meeting but all are welcome and encouraged to attend.
A²MEND Charter Club
The A²MEND Charter Club provides an opportunity to promote a sense of brotherhood and positivity among its members, within campus, and the surrounding community. Members of the A²MEND Charter Club are dedicated to academic success, leadership development, community service, and mentoring.
