Applying for Admission
The first thing you need to do is to complete the online application for admission to East Los Angeles College by visiting the LACCD Student Information System Web site.

Assessment
Since reading, writing and mathematics skills are essential for learning and understanding in all subjects, it is helpful for students to know their level of performance in these areas. Testing in these subjects, as well as in English as a Second Language (ESL), will provide students with the necessary information for planning a course of study at East Los Angeles College.
Test results, along with high school records, educational and employment experiences, current work schedule, and motivational level can be used to help students plan their class schedules.Academic Counselors provide interpretation of test results and work with students to prepare their Student Educational Plan (SEP). The Assessment Office provides information about the types of testing available and its testing schedule.

Orientation
The purpose of the East Los Angeles College Orientation is to provide students with information concerning college programs, college services, as well as student rights and responsibilities.
Currently, the College Orientation is offered to students directly following completion of the Assessment Test. Orientation is also available to students who have completed or are exempt from the Assessment Test on a walk-in basis except during heavy registration periods (i.e. the two weeks before and one week after the first day of classes). During this period, it may be necessary for students to follow the Orientation Calendar posted in the Student Entry Center (Building E6 - 102) and at the Assessment Center (Building F7).

Counseling Online
The Counseling staff is available throughout the calendar year to assist students in defining their objectives, planning a course of action, and continuing on the right path toward their educational goals. For success in college, students should see a counselor at least once each semester.
The Counseling Department is located in E1-127. See the Campus Map for the exact location. The hours are from Monday to Thursday 8:00am to 7:00pm and Friday 8:00am to 3:30pm.

Enrolling in Classes
Once you have completed the admissions process, you can go ahead and enroll in classes. The following definitions will help you better understand the schedule of classes that you will select your courses from:
A prerequisite is a skill that students must possess or classes that must have been passed before enrolling in certain classes. Transcripts from high schools and/or any colleges that have attended must be provided, showing completed prerequisite classes with satisfactory grades. English and Math prerequisites will automatically be checked by the enrollment system. Challenges to any prerequisites can be discussed with the counseling staff in the Student Entry Center. Students will be provided with the necessary form and process information.
A corequisite is a condition of enrollment consisting of a course that a student is required to take in order to enroll in another course during the same semester.
An advisory or recommended preparation is simply a suggestion for the student to follow in order to be successful in the course.
Course Articulations
In order to make sure the classes you take at ELAC are eligible for transfer to the University of California system (UC) and/or the California State University system (CSU), you should check with one or both of the following sources.
The ELAC Course Equivalency System allows you to search a database of courses offered at ELAC and compare them with equivilent courses at other popular California colleges.
ASSIST is an online student-transfer information system that shows how course credits earned at one public California college or university can be applied when transferred to another. ASSIST is the official repository of articulation for California's public colleges and universities and provides the most accurate and up-to-date information about student transfer in California.
