Effective Fall 2014, in compliance with Title V - Enrollment Priorities, all new incoming students must be fully matriculated to receive enrollment priority for registration. Full matriculation includes completion of Assessment, Orientation, and Counseling. Timely completion of these 3 steps may result in a higher registration priority. Students who do not complete this process in a timely manner will receive a lower registration priority.

Loss of Enrollment Priority & Appeal Process

Continuing Students would lose enrollment priority if they have either earned more than 100 units (not including non-degree applicable basic skill courses) or have been on academic or progress probation for two (2) consecutive terms (Spring/Fall).

Students may appeal their Loss of Enrollment Priority in an attempt to reinstate original priority registration date/time. Students must submit a Loss of Enrollment Priority petition form to the Admissions Office (E1-105), along with supporting documentation, by the petition deadline. An established committee will review each petition and will contact students via email regarding their petition results.

Assessment Exemption & Request Process

New students may request to be exempted from the assessment component if they meet any one of the following conditions:

  • Participated in the assessment placement process at another California Community College outside of the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) within the past two years.
  • Participated in the Early Assessment Program (EAP) and received college-level placement in English and Math (please note that "conditional acceptance" is not accepted).
  • Completed both an English (or ESL) and Math course at another college/university.

 

To request exemption, students must submit an LACCD Matriculation Assessment Exemption Request form, with appropriate documentation, to the Admissions Office (E1-105).

Matriculation Exemptions

Subject to change based on LACCD district board rules and policies. Effective 2015, in compliance with SB 1456 - Student Success Act of 2012, all new students are expected to participate in the core matriculation services of Assessment, Orientation, and Counseling. However, some students may be exempted from these services if one or more of the following apply:

  • Student has completed an associate degree or higher.
  • Student has enrolled at the college for a reason other than career development or advancement, transfer, attainment of a degree or certificate of achievement, or completion of a basic skills or English as a Second Language course sequence.
  • Student has completed these 3 steps at another community college within a time period identified by the district.
  • Student has enrolled at the college solely to take a course that is legally mandated for employment as defined in section 55000 or necessary in response to a significant change in the industry or licensure standards.
  • Student has enrolled at the college as a special admit student pursuant to Education Code Section 76001.

 

If you meet one of these conditions you will be exempted from the core matriculation services and shall be notified at the time of submitting the admission application.

Exemption Is Not Prerequisite Clearance

Please note that being exempted from the core matriculation steps does NOT imply that course prerequisites have been automatically cleared. Students that are exempted from Assessment, Orientation, and Counseling must still follow prerequisite clearance procedures. Students that would like to clear a course prerequisite may submit a Prerequisite Clearance Request, along with appropriate documentation, to the Counseling Office (E1-127).

Prerequisite/Corequisite Challenge Process

Students may challenge a course prerequisite or corequisite by submitting a Prerequisite/Corequisite Challenge Petition. Students must submit the petition, along with supporting documents, to the respective department 10 days before the start of the semester/session.

  • If the Challenge Petition is approved, the Department Chair will forward the petition approval to the Admissions Office for proper course clearance.
  • If the Challenge Petition is denied, the Department Chair will notify the student (with comments, if applicable). Students may appeal by contacting the Office of Academic Affairs.
